Update on 'Ice House' - the new Docklands Ice Sports Centre

Construction of the $58 million Ice House has been underway for the past five months and is on target for February 2010 completion. In addition to Harbour Town shopping centre, Ice House will add further excitement to the entertainment and retail destination at Waterfront City - ING Real Estate's complete urban precinct development located at Docklands, Melbourne.

The Venue

The Ice House is a multi-purpose entertainment, leisure and sports venue of approximately 9,500sqm GFA (on land area of 8555sqm). It will become home to the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia (OWI) which will locate its administration and operate its programs at the venue. The Ice House will host recreational ice skating, ice sports competitions as well as many other activities including roller skating, concerts, functions, exhibitions and theatre.

The Ice House will contain two Olympic-sized (60m x 30m) ice rinks, clear heights of 10.5m over the rinks, arena seating (approximately 1000 permanent) plus additional spectator viewing positions. Other amenities include café, licensed bar, function rooms, specialist winter sports medical suite and more.

The venue is designed by international and local specialist architects experienced in sports and leisure facilities.


Proposed Development Timing

• Commenced construction on site 4 December 2008
• Target opening date February 2010 (prior to the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, 12 to 28 Feb ’10)
